Position: Linux Desktop Support Analyst

Salary: £22,224 per annum
Hours: Monday – Friday (37 Hours)

A world-class research organisation are seeking a Linux Desktop Support Analyst to join their team in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Comprising a support team of three, you will join an organisation that pride themselves on professional development and expert knowledge within the field of land, ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere.
These guys play a vital role in our understanding of the world we live in, particularly in the case of early warnings in a bid to adapt, plan and change to combat problems. Such is the landscape (no pun intended!) of this Scientific organisation, IT support is a necessary component to ensure the smooth workings of the organisation across a number of departments.
You will be the first line of support, you will be conscientious, well spoken and hold a genuine interest and ambition to move your career forward. The company offer a fantastic benefits package and the platform to progress, therefore the combination of both personality and knowledge is key.
In respect of your knowledge, you will need to have a sound understanding of Linux, most notably in respect of managing Linux-based issues and escalating to second line as required. Your bread and butter will be basic desktop support including PC applications, printers and video conferencing, working with remote access tools (eg. PuTTY, NX, X2Go) and applications including R, Python, Shell scripting and the support of Linux distributions, patching servers and anything else of relevance.

- Must be comfortable with the Linux command line (not just GUIs)
- First line support experience
- Linux server patching
- Methodical approach to trouble shooting
- Basic networking experience
- Knowledge of IT security principles including firewalls
- Knows when to seek advice and guidance when solving problems
- Takes responsibility for tasks within a project or service
- Able to work independently and manages own time effectively
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability
