Firefish Software Celebrates a Decade on the Recruitment SaaS Market with a New CTO and London Expansion

Chris Varley announced as new Firefish CTO and ex-Bond Adapt veterans set up shop in London, marking the Scottish recruitment tech business’s official expansion south of the border.

Glasgow, Scotland, February 6th 2020: This month, Firefish Software is celebrating ten years on the recruitment SaaS market with some big news.

The Scottish recruitment software business has appointed Chris Varley (previously of Hymans Robertson and Gael ltd.) as their new Chief Technology Officer and welcomed him to the company’s Board of Directors, joining Firefish CEO and Founder, Wendy McDougall, Co-Founder Andrew MacKay, Associate Director Louise Cunningham, and Kai Murray (previously Director and CEO of Search Consultancy).

Chris is bringing 20 years’ experience in senior strategic technical roles to Firefish, including ten years leading the development of SaaS products. He joins Firefish the same month the company marks its 10th year on the market and is tasked with pushing the company to its next growth phase as one of Scotland’s fastest-growing Software as a Service Businesses.

In addition to this exciting new hire, the Glasgow-based company is also announcing their first official step south of the border with the hiring of two London-based salespeople. Matt Jelley and Jo Bradford, both previously of Bond Adapt, joined Firefish following the recent acquisition of Bond Adapt by Bullhorn.

Firefish Software CEO, Wendy McDougall (known as ‘Chief Fish’), has said:

Ten years ago, I was a frustrated recruiter with a vision that there had to be a way that technology could make recruitment more efficient, and I could see that the industry badly needed to innovate to survive. When I look back now, it’s amazing to think how far we’ve come since then as a business and as an industry too.

The new hires we’ve made – both in Glasgow and our first hires in London – mark a massive step forward in the Firefish journey and I can’t wait to see where the next decade takes us.

Having worked with Chris in a previous life (he was my best client back when I owned my own recruitment agency), I know he’ll bring the stability we need to take us through this next high-growth period for the business.

To say 2020 has started with a bang for Firefish would be a real understatement!”

Chris Varley has said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Firefish shoal! Having seen Wendy and the team grow the business over the last 10 years, I’ve been really impressed – not only by their track record of growth, but also by a world-class product that’s been achieved through relentless focus on great customer experience.

This is an exciting time to join the company, as Firefish currently sits in a unique position with a strong brand, an eagerness and readiness to scale up, and – most importantly – a really great, highly-motivated team.

It’s a unique privilege to be given this tremendous opportunity to take these assets and help build the Firefish of the future. I personally can’t wait to see what innovations we deliver to our clients over the course of the next 10 years!”
