Critchley Becomes ADVANCE’s Sole MD

Shaun Critchley has become sole managing director of contractor and recruiter services provider ADVANCE.

Critchley previously served as joint managing director alongside Tim Hunt, who has left the business to pursue other opportunities.

Andrew Coates and Anna Sills remain in place as group finance director and customer service & communications director respectively.

A qualified employment law solicitor who has advised many of the UK’s largest recruitment businesses and trade bodies on legislation changes, Critchley joined ADVANCE in August 2015.

He said: “This is a really exciting time for ADVANCE and I’m honoured to be leading the business as we start the next chapter in our history.

“We have huge ambitions and some extremely talented people. I am determined to ensure that as a collective we fulfil our potential.

“ADVANCE will continue to evolve and innovate in order to meet the ever-changing needs of the UK’s contingent workforce and the recruiters who find them work.”

Based in Chester, ADVANCE is the only provider to have passed Freelancer & Contractor Services Association (FCSA) compliance audits for all three core contracting solutions – limited company accountancy, umbrella employment and self-employment.

Following April’s legislation changes, the company recently enjoyed its best ever week in terms of the number of umbrella contractors employed.

ADVANCE’s limited company accountancy client base, meanwhile, has more than doubled in size since this time last year.

Critchley added: “Here at ADVANCE we have been dealing with the key concept of ‘supervision, direction or control’ (SDC) in the self-employment arena since 2014.

“Our experience and expertise mean we’re uniquely placed to help recruitment businesses and their contractor candidates navigate the recent changes to umbrella – as well as any forthcoming changes to IR35 on the limited company side.”
