Job Description

Due to expansion we are currently recruiting for a Regional Health and Safety Officer to work for a national FMCG organisation with their Head Office in Birmingham.  Reporting directly to the Health and Safety Manager you will be responsible for assisting in the co-ordinated management of Health, Safety and Training across the UK.  The Regional Health and Safety Officer must work proactively with employees and management to establish and maintain safe systems of work across 14 production sites within the UK – This role will involve overnight stays at least for a minimum of 3 nights per week so you must be happy to stop away from home.

The duties of the Regional Health and Safety Officer will include:

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with current legislation, industry standards, company procedures, H&S training, corporate initiatives and to assist in implementing the UK safety strategy

  • Giving assistance and co-operation concerning audits and remedial actions

  • Inspect production areas of the business on a regular basis, identifying probable risks and advising on suitable control measures

  • To advice the wider operations/management team on the implications of current and emerging health, safety, welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the organisation

  • Ongoing maintenance and development of a safety culture throughout the organisation and streamline safety policies and procedures

The ideal Regional Health and Safety Officer will have the following key skills:

  • Previous Health and Safety experience ideally within an FMCG, manufacturing or ‘high risk’ environment

  • NEBOSH General Qualification

  • Flexible and be prepared to travel in line with needs of the business which will mean regular overnight stays

  • A positive attitude towards Health and Safety with a desire to resolve issues effectively and quickly

  • Be able to influence at all levels and implement change

  • Experience in training with strong presentation skills

  • Confident user of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint

The company offer a competitive salary paying up to £25,000 depending on experience plus travel expenses and hire car.  Hours of Work are 40 per week however flexibility will be required when travelling.
