Job Description

Role Overview

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for buying the best quality equipment, goods and services for the company at the most competitive prices.  You will oversee supply chain management and procurement on a world wide scale.  Two direct reports (purchasing assistants/administrators), managing a spend of £2m+ in this growing organisation.  Travel required in the UK, Europe and China.

Purchasing Manager - Key Responsibilities

  • A spend of £2M+; management, review and development of 100+ suppliers

  • Strategic purchase planning and stock control in line with business growth

  • Identification of cost saving opportunities to achieve an overall reduction in cost

  • Analysis and monitoring of supplier performance; sourcing and negotiation of favourable terms with suppliers

  • Building of strong working relationships and communications with suppliers

  • Providing accurate and timely reporting to Company Directors and the Senior Management team

  • Forecasting levels of demand for products to meet the business needs and keeping a constant check on stock levels

  • Conducting research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality

  • Liaising between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and customers

  • Negotiating and agreeing contracts and monitoring their progress, checking the quality of service provided

  • Forecasting price trends and their impact on future activities

  • Developing an organisation's purchasing strategy

  • Producing reports and statistics using Sage computer software (software upgrade pending)

  • Attending meetings and trade conferences (UK, Europe & China) as such, local and overseas travel involved

  • Training and supervising the work of Purchasing Assistants

Skills & Qualifications Required

  • Proven experience in a purchasing management role within a fast paced manufacturing environment

  • Excellent people management skills

  • CIPS qualification or working towards same

  • Strong commercial awareness

  • Ability to adapt to different client needs and to develop and maintain successful working relationships

  • A good standard of numeracy in order to analyse facts and figures

  • A flair for negotiation and networking

  • The ability to make important decisions and cope with the pressure of demanding targets and tight deadlines

  • Positive “can do” attitude

Purchasing Manager - Remuneration Package/Other

c£49-53k per annum (negotiable salary and benefits, dependent upon experience). Pension; 25 days annual leave + bank and statutory holidays.
