Payroll Administrator

Circa £25,000 + benefits

An independent firm of Chartered Accountants, offering an outstanding work environment, a great team ethic and a reputation for putting good humour and personality alongside hard work and a genuine customer focus.  Acting for clients ranging from high net worth individuals to large corporations, we are now looking to appoint an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our team.

Role Purpose: Working within a small accountancy practice, the payroll administrator will have responsibility for administering payroll requirements for a portfolio of clients using Sage Payroll

Role Responsibilities:

·         Payroll processing for circa 60 clients (ranging from nil submissions and one person businesses up to those with circa 20 employees)

·         Liaising with clients to request information to prepare their payroll

·         Calculating and checking the clients payroll for approval

·         Reconciling client payrolls ensuring all payrolls processed are accurate

·         Providing approval reports to the clients

·         Providing post payroll reporting to the client

·         Processing Auto-enrolment opt-in and opt-out

·         Dealing with clients’ and employees’ payroll queries

·         Liaising with HMRC and dealing with queries

·         Ensuring the payroll database is up-to-date and accurate

·         Issuing P45s

·         Administering CIS schemes and verifying subcontractors

·         Ensuring all electronic filing is complete

·         Uploading bank files for BACS payment

·         Processing a limited number of ex-patriate payrolls initially under the supervision of the tax partner

·         Preparing monthly payroll accounting journals for circa 10 clients


Our focus is finding the right person for the job, as such we will consider applications from those looking for either a full or part-time position (minimum 3 days per week or equivalent, some flexibility can be offered). We can tailor this role to suit and although the payroll remit in itself is not a full-time requirement, we will consider applicants with other practice experience e.g. bookkeeping, personal tax and /or accounts production to make this a full time role.


About You

·         Experienced payroll administrator

·         Previous Accountancy Practice or smaller payroll bureau experience

·         Outstanding interpersonal skills and personal presentation - there will client contact and it is important that candidates are confident in communicating both verbally and in writing

·         Analytical and enquiring mind

·         Highly attentive to detail

Package:  Circa £25,000 pro rata (negotiable based on experience), plus benefits
