An 8 hour work day is only as effective as you are

In recent memory, the UK economy has been buoyant, the employment market healthy and recruitment fees high. The Coronavirus pandemic has forced a fundamental switch in not only how we operate, but how we recruit. 

Since March 2020, there has been a decrease in the number of live roles any recruiter is working, but there is no shortage of talent ready to take on a new position with unemployment rates increasing to 3.9% (with predictions seeing this increase as 7 million employees are still on furlough).

Although these statistics are stark and in truth, a little unnerving, it’s not all doom and gloom. The economy is already showing signs of recovery and it is predicted that the UK market will return to pre-Coronavirus levels by January 2021. 

So what does this mean for the world of recruitment? 

The Coronavirus has been a detox for the recruitment industry. It has forced us to adopt new ways of working which were previously dismissed in the majority, (such as remote working) and become more agile in our way of working, (say goodbye to robust PSLs with strict SLAs, they just aren’t feasible in this new moving world we now operate). 

It has also forced us to look internally to assess where we can potentially cut costs or improve commercials.

Recent surveys have shown that candidate screening is one of the most time-consuming aspects of recruitment. 

In pre-Coronavirus times, the average agency recruiter spent 4 hours a day on screening calls with candidates.
