Why you need a blog

Why your recruitment agency is missing out if it doesn't have a blog

If you haven’t got one already, then you may be wondering whether your recruitment agency needs a blog.

Is there any real business benefit to it, or is it a big white elephant?

Is now a good time to get one, or have you missed the boat?

We're here to tell you that if you're considering starting a blog of your own, then there is no time better than right now.

But why?

Why would you want to start a blog? After all, it's a big commitment that not everyone has time for. 80% of blogs fail in the first three months.

Despite all this, it's still a great idea to have one. This goes double for a people-oriented business like a recruitment agency.

The reason for this is simple. A blog is a window into your business's soul. It humanises your organisation to a broad audience that you wouldn't be able to reach by any other method.

And that's exactly what recruitment is all about isn't it? Being human? We all make the effort to come across well when speaking to people over the phone or in person, so why not online?

Then there are the SEO (search engine optimisation) reasons to start a blog. It can do wonders for how easy your website is to find online. This is because if you're doing it right, it will help your users. And Google loves it when websites help their users. So much so that they're more likely to put you at the top of the search results.

What should you put in your blog?

To answer this question, you need to consider the two purposes above. A recruitment agency will generally want to post content that:

a) Shows a human side to their service, setting them apart from the crowd.

b) Helps their users - whether candidates or clients. As well as the obvious, this will assist with SEO.

Also, you need to spend some time thinking about the type of 'voice' you want your agency to have. The beauty of a blog is that it allows you to portray yourself in more or less any way you want to.

Will your style be safe and corporate, or young and fresh? Will you hook your blog up to any forms of social media? If so, what will they be? Instagram works well for some recruiters, but plain old LinkedIn is better for others. It all depends on your sector - and your style.

But the real key to a successful blog is consistency. If you want your readers to keep coming back, then you need to produce excellent content on a regular basis.

So how do you do all that and run a recruitment agency at the same time?

The internet changed publishing forever. Nowadays, anyone can put their thoughts out there for all to see. But that doesn't make everyone a skilled writer.

You might have an interesting story to tell. You might even have an amazing story to tell. But if you lack the ability or drive to write it down in an appealing manner, then no one will ever read it.

That's why you should consider getting someone else to write your story for you. And when we say story, what we actually mean is your 'brand story'. That's a fancy term for having a consistent message across your marketing materials.

There are teams of people you can hire to do this. Distinct are one such team. We specialise in helping recruitment agencies to stand out from their competition.

If your agency needs a blog, then why not get in touch and see what our writers and designers can do for you?
