Wagstaff Recruitment & Stephen Sutton Multi-Academy Trust
Thursday 16th February saw the first board meeting for the Stephen Sutton Multi-Academy Trust. SSMAT is for Burntwood and the surrounding area taking inspiration from the shining example of Stephen Sutton.
‘Make every second count, never take anything for granted.
Don’t be afraid to try something new – life is for living’
Wagstaff Recruitment’s Founder; Ruth Forster felt privileged to be approached in 2016 to become a Director of the Board and advise on employment and skills for the MAT. The values, aspirations and work ethic of the trust fit perfectly with Ruth’s personal values and the values of Wagstaff Recruitment. Life is not a dress rehearsal (as Ruth’s father has always taught her) which fits in perfectly with one of Stephen’s phrases “Life is for living”.
Stephen Sutton grew up in Burntwood and attended Chase Terrace Technology College. He inspired people across the world with his bravery, his generosity of spirit and his extraordinarily positive response to his terminal cancer condition. The community of Burntwood is enormously proud of what Stephen achieved through his fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust (over £3 million when he died). He has left an amazing legacy of hope and ambition and his example provides the guiding principles for schools in ‘The Stephen Sutton Academy Trust’.
Wagstaff Recruitment has supported local schools for the past 4 years. As a business we feel we are in an ideal position to give inspiration, actual data and showcase career opportunities to the next generation. Our day to day jobs are all about creating opportunities for people to find their ideal role and for our clients to recruit exceptional talent to their business but there is a lot we can do to start to showcase what opportunities are out there for the next generation. What we do see when we volunteer in the schools is that the next generation are little sponges, even from the ages of 9 & 10 they listen, learn and demonstrate to us through careers days and dragons den events their interests, skills and ambition. In their project work they present real business acumen which includes developing their ideas into a business plan, looking at all elements of their business, from sales and branding through to cost and finance.
As a team at Wagstaff Recruitment we hope to inspire everyone that we interact with and we enjoy stirring up those ideas every day, seeing energised thinking all around us. We live in a world of great opportunities and have a responsibility to enlighten and inspire generations that follow us to give them the best possible opportunities.
The Wagstaff team look forward to working with Stephen Sutton Multi-Academy Trust to support, guide and inspire.
Schools across the Stephen Sutton Multi-Academy Trust will work together for continuous improvement with ambition and imagination. We take our lead from Stephen himself, who showed us how to make the most of our opportunities.
Stephen taught us how to … live, love, laugh and learn.
In return we will honour his legacy by inspiring the next generation to carry on;
Living, loving, laughing and learning.
