Compass Point Celebrates 21 Years of Recruiting

Bury St Edmunds-based TEAM Member Compass Point Recruitment, one of the region’s leading independent recruitment consultancies with clients spread throughout Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, is celebrating 21 years in business.  The anniversary comes at a time when the company has revealed a new and contemporary corporate image and website, and is reporting a significant increase in the flow of job vacancies in the region.

The company, which specialises in sales and marketing, secretarial, PAs and administration, engineering, industrial, accountancy and HR areas of recruitment, has confirmed that recruitment activity has increased markedly in recent years as the economy has shown signs of healthy recovery.

Said Managing Director Rebecca Thurlow: ‘It is true to say that Compass Point is celebrating its 21st year in the business at a time of more activity in the market.  Businesses have been through some challenging times during the last decade and companies have understandably restructured.  The good news is that things are very different now - employers are looking to strengthen their teams, gearing up for a busier time ahead. This is a positive indicator that there is more confidence about and much more optimism in the future.’

‘Focusing on delivering local candidates for local businesses has been a key element in our success.  Our role is changing as we are being challenged to deliver candidates with complete skill sets – and relevant experience in their given sector - who can make an exponential difference to the way a business operates. Excellent candidates are finding jobs very quickly, so clients are having to be decisive with their recruitment otherwise the best candidates are being placed elsewhere!’

‘Clearly the internet has revolutionised recruitment within the past 21 years with most candidates searching for jobs online - and emailing rather than posting CVs.  Employers are having to respond by creating stimulating job specifications and enough excitement around the role to hook the top candidates.  The cost implications of staff turnover for an employer highlight the benefit of working with a recruitment specialist to bring the right person on board to drive the business to its next level.  Job skills are now blended together more rigorously so that roles can appear more challenging than ever before.  However with the increasing use of technology and flexible working the potential of the positions on offer is clear to candidates.’

‘We always work with energy and enthusiasm but owe everything to the loyalty of our clients and candidates, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning.  This is a business where long standing relationships develop as candidates and clients work together to capitalise on the benefits of ‘expert’ sector knowledge.’

‘I started the business with the conviction that one day it would be one of the most prominent recruitment consultancies within the region.  Twenty one years later we are truly established as a part of the Suffolk business scene still helping businesses to find people with pinpoint accuracy.’

Compass Point has three core principles of its recruitment business: communication, pre-selection and recommendation.  Its vacancy statistics for West Suffolk and the surrounding area confirm that Bury St Edmunds remains one of the hot spots for growth in employment opportunities within the region and suggests that the town is in line for continued expansion.

Speaking about the strong link between the West Suffolk College and Compass Point Recruitment, Director of Human Resources at West Suffolk College, Tricia O’Sullivan said: ‘Our aim is to deliver outstanding education that inspires excellence; and Compass Point Recruitment has been helping us to achieve that aim through the great people and service they supply to us.’

Compass Point Recruitment has clients across Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire & Essex and an established client base within in Newmarket, Haverhill, Sudbury, Mildenhall, Stowmarket, Hadleigh, Ely, Diss, Eye and Thetford.

The business, with its team of 10 staff, is based at Abbeygate House in St Andrews Street South, Bury St Edmunds.
